A Gourmet Corner in Fishtown

Castellino’s at 1255 East Palmer St. calls itself an Italian pantry.

This small shop is stocked with cheeses, olives, spreads, pastas, oils, sauces, meats, and breads.

They are also a sandwich shop, with a selection of very reasonably priced sandwiches that are more European than the usual convenience store offerings.

I walked out with a small bag and the Fig Pig sandwich (fig jam, prosciutto, mascarpone). Ever since a trip to Lyon, France last year I’ve been obsessed with fig jam. It’s not stocked at my usual stores, but Castellino’s had it.

If you find yourself in Fishtown, this is a store worth checking out. Just not on Monday, the one day they are closed.
