Philly’s Classic Deli

Since 1923 Famous 4th Street Delicatessen has been on the corner of 4th and Bainbridge in Queen Village. I can’t find information about when it became “famous.” I’m assuming it wasn’t opened with that name. Maybe I should have started calling this Famous Philly Blog.

The entrance is a take out deli with the dining area in the back.

Before I ordered, a pickle and slaw plate was unceremoniously deposited on my table.

Sandwiches come in “regular” and “zaftig.”

I got the regular corned beef special.

With a sandwich like this, at some point a decision has to be made: am I eating this all now or taking half home? I ate it all.

My check arrived with a free soft chocolate chip cookie.

Even with all that, I couldn’t resist getting a raspberry Linzer Tart from the bakery case on my way out the door.
